Cuts Trans Fats - As people begin to be more concerned with
the food they eat, big businesses are also having to adapt to these
changes. KFC is the latest to give in to consumer demand and activist
led campaigns that demand change.
- Suing
Big Corporate Polluters - First it was tobacco, then fast
food, now lawyers are looking at big car makers, oil companies, and
utilities. With more than fifteen cases pending, big corporations
with a history of polluting the environment are nervously looking
over their shoulder.
- Hybrid
Car Incentives - While hybrid cars remain more expensive than
regular gasoline driven cars, there are corporations and local governments
that are offering incentives to think green when buying a vehicle.
- Business
Roundtable Report - The Australian Business Roundtable on
Climate Change has recently reported that if businesses act early,
they can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at an affordable
price. The report come up with the following points..
- Chevy
Tahoe Competition - Sounds like a pretty good marketing gimmick
for Chevrolet, and it probably would have been a few years ago. But
people are starting to see big gas guzzlers for what they are: a blight
on the environment.
- Oil
Company wants Ethanol Subsidies Removed - Businesses like
to compete on level playing fields, but when you are a major oil company
like Exxon Mobil and your company has been reporting ridiculously
profitable financial results, it is probably not a good idea to be
suggesting the ethanol subsidies should be removed.
- Enron's
Andrew Fastow in Court - The Enron drama is unfolding daily
on every news channel recently, with the media making it sound more
interesting than it probably is. The star prosecution witness, Andrew
Fastow is the main man at the moment.
Fastow was the chief financial officer for Enron that profitted by
millions while the company fell down around him.
- Starbucks
Coffee Challenge - Green LA Girl has challenged Starbucks
by setting up an experiment/competition to see if the giant coffee
shop chain does what it promises.
- Toyota
Camry Hybrid - It's really only motorists that feel strongly
about the environment and the impact they have on it that are prepared
to pay the extra to own a hybrid, and having such small selection
of makes and models to choose from makes them even less attractive.
- General
Motors Energy Solution - One of the largest auto makers in
the world GM, recently announced its plan to work towards energy independence.
Rather than releasing something "cool" and hybrid like Toyota's
Prius vehicle, they are taking the path of fuelling the current vehicles
on the road and those to come with plant-based ethanol fuel.
- Hybrid
Car Demand - The Japanese car manufacturer Toyota is struggling
to keep up with the demand for its hybrid powered cars. The environmental
blessing of a gas crisis has encouraged consumers to look for more
gas friendly vehicles like the popular Toyota Prius and the Honda
Civic Hybrid.
- The
Five Steps of Corporate Responsibility - Nike and Nestle learned
the hard way: As society changes, we must constantly rethink how we
do business. Most corporations pass through five stages as they move
toward social responsibility.
- Hybrid
Car Talks - GM and Toyota - With oil on the up and oil supplies
always on the way out, I'm surprised big car makers havnt pursued
more economic cars with a passion! They are starting to trikle out,
but hybrid cars should be a part of the mainstream.. for the environment..
and for the sake of leaving a bit of oil in the ground.
